RENT, Boston, and my brother's wedding

A short to-the-point entry, on account of exhaustion.

RENT. It's an absolutely incredible show. The opportunity to see it with two of the original cast members is something well worth the ticket cost. Anthony and Adam were amazing, words cannot describe. Their fellow cast members more than measured up; I especially enjoyed the woman who played Joanne. The Colonial Theater was a great venue for the show, not a bad seat in the house, large enough, yet intimate. I can't find the words to describe how much I enjoyed the show, and if I had the opportunity (or the money), I would be on my way to see it again.

Em's brother's girlfriend's birthday party at Smitty K's followed RENT. Then a stop at Whiskey's to hang out with Em's college friends, where some guy attempted an ill-fated pick-up attempt.

Boston's definitely one of my favorite cities, right up there with Dublin and Madrid. I could easily spend far more time there than I should.

This coming weekend is my brother's wedding, I'm very excited and happy for him. My sister-in-law definitely caused a major transformation in my brother and his outlook on life, and for that I am grateful and happy to have her joining my family.

Life Lessons to live by...

Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio
"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written."
My odometer rolls over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick.. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it..

9. Save for retirement starting with your first pay check.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you, really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone, everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36.. Growing old beats the alternative - dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come.

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

Just think about it.

Ooo...pretty...

So, I have gotten some inside info on a brand-new apartment in Newport (a safe non-sketchtastic part of Newport). I'm very excited and hope this opportunity pans out. I would be an extremely happy girl come September if it does! I will keep everyone updated. :)

In other news, I'm very excited that summer is here! Lots of awesome plans!

Guys and Dolls

I just finished a production of "Guy and Dolls" at the Newport Opera House. It was an amazing experience. After becoming involved in a play at the Opera House in the fall on a whim, and with some encouragement from one of it's board members and a person I had done some other local performances with, I was hooked on becoming a part of this theater family and the town.

I noticed, particularly with this production, that the residents of the town of Newport share so many experiences together. From the theater, to the baseball field, to the HS prom, these families are so close-knit. I don't know if it's the fact that the school I went to and the area I grew up in is so expansive that this sense of community is lost, or what it is, but I just don't feel such a connection in the Kearsarge area that these families and people seem to share.

A friend's mother and I were trying to explain to her the effect that this feeling of community gives to children as they grow up. It is a wonderful place to raise children and I noticed that so many of the children were far more respectful to others than I had seen in my community. She disagreed with us, stating that such a tight-knit community just led to everyone knowing everyone's business and how she would hate that; which is partially true, but as they say today's newpapers are lining tomorrow's wastebins. Rumors and speculations pass, but a feeling of community and support last forever.

I think that's why I've decided to try to get an apartment in Newport this fall. While I love my neighborhood and my home, I feel as though for my first place on my own that Newport would be a good fit. I know many people in the community already and hope to become a part of it myself. Though my home will always be "home" to me.

Blog Title?

In case anyone was wondering what the origin of my blog title is: "Still I Can't Be Still" from the album of the same name, by Idina Menzel (one of my favorite songs of hers)

Well I don't believe in God
But she talks to me all the time
And I banish my mother
But she holds me when I cry
And I have been unfaithful but
With me he'll spend the rest of his life

Yes I have been forgiven
By all whom I've betrayed and loved
And I have everything I want
Is it ever enough

Still I can't be still
Still I can't be silent
Still I can't be still
Still I can't be saved
Still I can't be still
I can't be silent
Still I'm... still

Well I don't believe I'm beautiful but
At least I've got my sister's smile
And I resist the muses yet
They sing to me in exile
And destiny is not deafening
But it hushed me like a child

And every time I feel as though
I'm closer to the eye
The storm winds blow
I run inside and though I feel revived

Still I can't be still
Still I can't be silent
Still I can't be still
Still I can't be saved
Still I can't be still
I can't be silent
Still I'm... still

The insatiable peace
My quest for true serenity
No matter how hard the rain
The thirst is neverending
No matter how many friends or angels
Been sent down to take me away
They can't make it okay
They can't make it okay

And every time I feel as though
I'm closer to the eye
The storm winds blow
I run inside and though I feel revived
And every time I feel as though
I'm closer to the eye
The storm winds blow
I run inside and though I feel revived
I don't believe I'm beautiful
At least I've got my sister's smile
And I resist the muses yet
They sing to me still...
